What are different wings of pwd?

Public works department has three wings viz. roads & buildings(r&b), water resources (wr) and drinking water supply and sanitation (dws) and each wing is headed by one chief engineer. in addition the department has a constituted board viz. tripura housing and construction board, where minister, pwd is the chairman and chief executive officer (ceo) is the executive head.

Who is the authority for allotment of government quarters?

Two allotment committees exists for the purpose, one for type-i, ii and iii quarters and chief engineer, pwd(r&b) is chairman of the committee and chief secretary, govt. of tripura is chairman of the committee meant for type-iv and above.

How enlistment of contractors can be obtained?

The applicants should apply to the concerned superintending engineer as per prescribed format. the details are given at citizen section of the home page.

Can private work be done by pwd?

No, no work of any private entity is done by pwd as it is the responsibility of pwd to carry out works of any government, government undertakings, boards etc

Is it possible to carryout testing of sub soils other mater materials for private buildings in the laboratory of pwd?

Yes, it is possible on completion of certain formalities including payment in advance. for the purpose contact can be made with asst. engineer, state quality testing laboratory located at pragati road, agartala.

What are the different benefits given to unemployed engineers?

Once unemployed degree or diploma engineer is registered with pwd, he/she is eligible to execute maximum three works without tender in a financial year subject to availability of fund and demand of work in a particular division. in addition, degree and diploma holder is exempted from payment of earnest money for tenders upto rs. 2.5 lakhs and rs. 1.0 lakh respectively

Is the department has any perspective road development for tripura if yes what are the objectives as per that plan?

Yes, the department has prepared a draft perspective plan on road connectivity, which was submitted to the state planning board, tripura. the following objectives are fixed as per plan: i. to improve the state's road transport infrastructure (physical network, operations and management) in a sustainable manner, by efficiently removing road transport bottlenecks, lowering transport costs and improving the maintenance of road network assets; ii. achievement of effective sustainable funding and management of road maintenance; iii. introduction of national and international quality road construction methods, quality and management standards; iv. strengthening and modernization of state institutional arrangements, policies, resources and capacities for the management of the sector; v. strengthening of quality testing facilities

What is bharat nirman or pmgsy ?

Pradhan mantri gram sadak yojana (pmgsy) was announced in december 2000 by prime minister to provide all weather road connectivity to all the habitations of population more than 250 . subsequently “bharat nirman programme” was announced by the president of india in his address to the joint session of parliament on 25th february 2005 and was articulated by the finance minister in his budget speech on 28th february 2005 for construction of rural road to strengthen the rural infrastructure. the rural road under pmgsy is one of the six components of bharat nirman. it envisages construction of all weather road to provide connectivity to all the habitations of population more than 500. upgradation is permitted under bharat nirman in cases where the new link connects to a fair-weather road, which leads to the market centre and which are through routes / major link roads having wbm surface / gravel roads or through routes with passenger car index (pci) 2 or less. it is also decided that, out of identified roads, mord will provide fund for 60% (termed as 60% upgradation) of the identified roads and state govt. will provide fund for balance 40% of roads (termed as 40% renewal). fund for the new connectivity is made 100% by govt. of india. as per guidelines of the govt. of india, the executing agencies are also responsible for maintenance of roads for a period of five years
